U.N. URBAN ENVIORNMENTAL ACCORDS
U.S. MAYORS CLIMATE PROTECTION AGREEMENT

MGA pushed hard and supported the city in adoption of two operations alternating agreements: the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and the UNUrban Environmental Accords. This was touted by the Mayor as the most important accomplishment of the City in 2007. These declarations morally bind the city to reducing their carbon footprint and improving the quality of life in our community.

RENEWABLE ENERGY PLAN

MGA has written and is hoping the city will take advantage of a renewable energy plan designed for city infrastructure and to be self funding. MGA has repeatedly attempted to share this with the City of Monterey but thus far has not been able to get the ear of the City. With our new approach of attempting to demonstrate how a project like this can and will be an economic stimmulist in the community MGA hopes to overcome the resisitance and make substantial progress in the City wide renewable energy field.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL FILM CAFE

MGA has reinvigorated CSMC's film series formerly known as the Watch Talk and Act. The MGA Environmental Film Cafe presents environmental films in partnership with local filmmakers and organizations, and provides guests with take-home environmental actions and lessons. Films are shown at the East Village Cofee Lounge and outdoors Downtown Monterey. See events posting for upcoming film cafe events. URBAN NATURE

MGA is coordinating with the City of Monterey on urban gardening projects. Other campaigns include fruit trees in public spaces. Sign up to participate today!

TEAM TOXICS

MGA's TEAM TOXICS has worked on plastic bag alternatives, education, adopt-your-neighborhood calls to action, letter writing campaigns, involvement in the regional polystyrene ban, and more. Currently we are working on a pocket card for what to avoid in personal care and makeup (that includes toothpaste and sunscreen too!) and providing healthy, natural alternatives available in our local stores. MGA partnered with the City to provide green vehicle fleet recommendations.
